I get inquiries for on the job trainings and summer jobs. Mostly we get it through text and I have 90% ignored it because I feel that the request commands some respect and text messages are not the proper venue for it :)
Last week I got an email, from a Benguet State University student. I gave it a thought because:
1) we have had very good experience with our employees from BSU
2) our market has consistently grown in the Benguet, Mt. Province area
3) we need to educate people on the benefits of grass fed chickens
4) if she learns from us, even just a little...that knowledge will benefit all, as she may echo it
What will I give her to do? Store brooding. That is a far more difficult job, than ordinary brooding in farms. Merits a separate topic to discuss :)
Because we are taking her in...we will be open to the idea now of accepting students who want to learn from us.

Benguet State University Seminar
We have to thank the support of Benguet State University to Doc Karen, during our seminar yesterday. It was well advertised and technical support can't be overlooked. The entrance to the main campus, we were greeted by our Sunshine banner. I later found out that our other banner was used during the parade.
We had the auditorium as venue. Aside from Vetmed students and faculty, there were at least 63 listed farmers who came and some of our dealers attended also.
Visited the demo farm, where the barn for the Sunshine Chickens of BSU were. There were co-existing happily with the goats and turkeys :)
Starting today, Benguet State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, will be selling Sunshine Day Old Chicks. They are serving the inquiries brought about by the seminar and the visibility of their demo farm.

Thesis It
We are very supportive of students who have elected to use Sunshine Chickens for their studies.
Proud that Benguet State University have chosen us, when they encouraged some Vet Med students to make a study on experimental feedings for the manners that most farmers in highland conditions will apply.

This is how they look now on the range. Nice small cages...look like watch posts for chicken coops :)
Commercial feeds have been totally withdrawn after 21days, when they were started to be ranged.
They have become some sort of attraction as awareness for healthy eating is increasing in the region. BSU also decided to range them in the organic garden area :)

Agri Kapihan Sa Benguet 14Feb08
After the talk at BSU's Vetmed Week, we hopped over to DA-CAR's training center, still inside the BSU campus, for the Agri-Kapihan sa Benguet.
Representatives from the Provincial Veterinary Office, Department of Agriculture and Sunshine Chicken, were there to tackle the free range poultry industry. Hosted in joint by Philippine Information Agency and the radio station DZWT 540khz. Cross section from media, private and government sectors were at hand.
It was a good show aired live over the radio and will be on delayed telecast on television. Clearly it was a government against and with the public sector. Like a "he said, she said, they said". Unscripted and was very spontaneous.
What was good about it? All three were veterinarians. Although the members of the panel were coming from different opinions, you will see that whenever one spoke, the others were agreeing also. Shows that there are sides to everything and that you should use your best judgement on what works best for you.
Bad part was...as usual I just had photos of the before and after as I sat with them infront.
Best part? See how everyone was quiet while eating? They had Steamed Sunshine in Ginger and Leeks.
People came back for seconds and thirds.

Benguet State University's Vetmed Week 2008
That was what we did before going to Benguet State University's Vetmed Week.
I realized I had no pics of Doc Rey as he was speaking. That is because I was manning the projector and I was having problems with my laptop's photo viewer.
Thank you to Robichem group who was the next speakers. They were very helpful in my predicament and plugged my flashdrive into their laptop. Now I know why they had several laptops with them. Can't tell when life's jokes play on you.
The vetmed students and faculty was a great audience. We hope to get invited back.
